Quick answer

Messages is the shared client inbox on Studio and Growth. Owners, admins and front desk can start a conversation, answer replies and mark it resolved. Client replies is off until an owner or admin turns it on; then replies to any studio email arrive there too.

Before you begin

  • A Studio or Growth plan.

  • An owner, admin or front-desk account in the studio.

  • A studio contact email in Settings, so copies of replies reach the right inbox.

You'll know it worked when

  • A message you send appears in the conversation and reaches the client.

  • The client's reply appears in the same conversation.

  • With Client replies on, a reply to a booking email appears in Messages and in your studio inbox.

Follow along in Junocal

Open the exact product area, then keep this guide beside it.

Open Messages

Start or answer a conversation

  1. 1

Open Messages from the main menu. On a phone it is in More.

  2. 2

Choose New message, pick the client and write. Or choose Message on a client's profile or their row in Clients.

  3. 3

Open a conversation to read the client's reply and answer it.

  4. 4

Choose Mark resolved when nothing else is needed. The count beside Messages goes down when a conversation is answered or resolved.

Keep replies to every studio email

  1. 1

As an owner or admin, open Settings → Email.

  2. 2

Under Client replies, turn on Save client replies in Messages and choose Save reply setting.

  3. 3

From then on, replies to confirmations, reminders, class messages, receipts and campaigns arrive in Messages with the client's record.

  4. 4

Each reply is also copied to your studio inbox, with a Reply in Junocal link.

Who can use Messages

Owners, admins and front desk share the inbox on Studio and Growth. Growth adds Unanswered and Mine views, and Take conversation for busy teams. On Free and Starter, earlier conversations stay readable and sending needs Studio or Growth.

Messages is for client conversations. Questions for the Junocal team go through Help & feedback and appear in Support messages.

Troubleshooting

Start with the symptom that matches what you can see. Check the existing record before repeating a booking, payment or import.

A client's reply did not appear in Messages

Check these first

  • Check that Client replies is on in Settings → Email.

  • Check that the client replied from the email address on their profile, to an email sent after you turned it on.

Next step: Turn on Client replies for emails sent from now on. Replies from another address are still copied to your studio inbox: reply from there, or update the client's email.

The count beside Messages does not go down

Check these first

  • Open each conversation waiting for a reply.

  • Check whether a teammate has already answered.

Next step: Reply to or mark resolved each waiting conversation. The count shows conversations that still need a reply.

You cannot send a message

Check these first

  • Check the studio's plan.

  • Check that the client has a working email address on their profile.

Next step: Sending is included with Studio and Growth. Add a working email to the client's profile, then try again.

Answers before you get stuck

Where do client replies go when Client replies is off?

To your studio's contact email, or the owner's email if none is set. Replies to conversations you started in Messages still come back to Messages.

Will my studio inbox still get replies?

Yes. Every reply is copied to your studio inbox with the client's name and a Reply in Junocal link, so nothing that reached you before is lost.
