Momence payment fee calculator

Momence bundles payment processing — your Stripe account is a sub-account, and the platform adds a spread on top of Stripe's published rate. Plug in your real card volume and average ticket to see what that spread costs you over a year.

the short answer

For a UK studio at £120,000 annual card volume

With £22 average ticket and a 60 bps Momence markup, Stripe direct charges roughly £2,891/year (1.5% + 20p per transaction) while Momence bundled charges roughly £3,611/year. The annual markup paid to Momence is ~£720, spread across about 5,455 transactions. Junocal uses Stripe Connect Standard, so your existing Stripe rates apply directly with zero platform spread on top. Last reviewed 21 May 2026.

how this works

The math, spelled out

Stripe direct: card volume × 1.5% (UK) or 2.9% (US) + per-transaction fee × estimated transaction count (volume / average ticket). Momence bundled: Stripe's fees + an additional markup expressed in basis points on card volume. We default to 60 bps because that's the most commonly reported spread on standard Momence accounts. Adjust it if you know yours.

questions

FAQ

What's the Momence processing markup, in plain language?

Momence is the merchant of record on payments — your Stripe account is a sub-account behind Momence's relationship with Stripe. The published Momence rate runs roughly 60 basis points (0.6%) above what Stripe would charge you directly with your own account, on standard configurations. The exact spread varies by negotiation, transaction mix, and country. The calculator lets you change the markup so you can model your specific rate.

Why does this matter at low card volumes?

At £50,000 annual card volume, 60 bps is ~£300/year — small but real. At £200,000 it's £1,200/year, which is more than a month of subscription fees. At £500,000 it's £3,000/year, often more than the platform subscription itself. The markup scales with revenue, which is why growing studios feel it more.

Can I negotiate Momence's processing rate down?

Sometimes — high-volume studios occasionally negotiate the markup lower. But you can't get to zero markup while staying on Momence's processing, because the spread is part of the platform's revenue model. Junocal uses Stripe Connect Standard, which means your Stripe account stays yours and your published Stripe rates apply directly — no platform spread on top.

What happens to my Stripe rates if I switch off Momence?

If your Stripe rates are negotiated, you get them back the moment you're using your own Stripe account directly. If you've never had a direct Stripe account, you start on Stripe's published rate card — which is still typically lower than the bundled rate Momence charges. The calculator's Stripe column uses the published rate as the comparison floor.
