Best music teacher software (2026)

Sharon Onyinye12 min readUpdated 27 August 2026

Short answer

There is no single best music teacher platform for every studio. My Music Staff and TeacherZone offer deeper music-specific learning tools; Fons is stronger for standing recurring lessons and automatic billing; Duet is the lowest published starting price in this comparison. Junocal starts at $15 and fits teachers who combine fixed term courses, one-off private appointments, group classes and direct Stripe ownership, but it does not currently automate open-ended repeating 1:1 appointments. Choose by workflow, not by a universal score.

If you teach music privately or run a small music school, the useful question is not which product wins a generic feature count. It is which tool fits the way you schedule, bill, teach and communicate. Music studios often combine standing weekly lessons, termly enrolment, make-ups, parent-managed payments and lesson notes. The five products below solve different parts of that job.

If you are deciding what to charge as well as which tool to use, the 2026 Music Lesson Pricing Index compares 24 named US and UK rate cards across 30-, 45- and 60-minute lessons, with city medians and an open CSV.

Use the music lesson rate-setting worksheet to turn those benchmarks into a fee for your own practice. Then compare per-lesson, termly and monthly tuition before choosing software to manage the payment schedule.

What to look for in music teacher software

Most scheduling tools are built for either one-off appointments or drop-in group classes. A music studio is neither. Before you commit, check the software against the five things that define a teaching practice.

Recurring weekly lessons. The backbone of a music studio is the standing slot: the same student at the same time every week. The software has to hold that recurring booking without you rebuilding the calendar each week, and it has to let you slot in make-up lessons when a student misses one.

Term-based enrolment. Many teachers run on a school-term rhythm, enrolling a student into a fixed block of weekly lessons and collecting one payment for the whole term. The software needs term enrolment as a first-class concept, not a workaround stitched together from individual bookings.

Prepaid lesson packs. Plenty of families prefer to buy a block of lessons up front, such as a 5-pack or a 10-pack, and draw them down over weeks. Packs reduce admin and improve cash flow, so the software should sell and track them automatically.

Payment ownership. Parents are paying for a child's lessons, often on autopay. You want that money in your own bank through your own payment account, at transparent rates, with no platform sitting between you and the funds.

Parent-friendly intake and reminders. A parent who books for a child needs to give you instrument, grade level, and contact preferences up front, and then wants a reminder the day before so the lesson does not get missed. Automated intake and reminders are what keep a small studio running without constant manual chasing.

My Music Staff: best for music-specific admin depth

My Music Staff publishes a $14.95 monthly base price plus $4.95 for each additional teacher or staff member. Its strongest difference is the music-specific surface around the booking calendar: lesson tracking, progress notes, assignments, file and video sharing, payroll calculations, a student portal and a hosted website. A multi-teacher school that wants teaching records and payroll inside the same product should shortlist it. A studio should calculate the staff multiplier as it grows.

Fons: best for scheduling and automatic billing

Fons publishes Fons Pro at $19.95 per month plus $4.95 per additional staff member. It combines recurring scheduling, cancellations, automatic payments, reporting, QuickBooks and Zoom integrations. The pricing page also publishes card and ACH rates plus a 0.4% fee on subscription volume, so compare total tuition processed rather than the subscription alone. It is a particularly relevant shortlist for studios that want the billing workflow to be the centre of the product.

Duet: best low-cost music-specific option

Duet publishes Basic at $14 per month for 20 students, Plus at $29 for 40 students and Premium at $49 for unlimited students. All listed plans include the core feature set and a website, with storage increasing by tier. That makes Duet attractive for a solo teacher who wants music-specific software and can live within a clear student cap. Check the plan screen at purchase because older Duet pages still show legacy pricing.

TeacherZone: best when the learning portal matters most

TeacherZone starts at $99 per month for up to 100 students and publishes a $225 tier for up to 250. The price is higher, but the product includes individual teacher, student and parent logins, video hosting, practice and learning tools alongside scheduling and billing. A larger music school that wants students engaging between lessons may value that extra surface; a solo teacher who only needs scheduling and payments is unlikely to need it.

Junocal: best affordable fit for terms, mixed formats and direct payments

Junocal is our product, so this recommendation is not presented as independent. It starts at $15 per month and fits teachers who combine fixed term-based courses, one-off private appointments, workshops and group classes while keeping payments in their own Stripe account. It is weaker than My Music Staff and TeacherZone on dedicated learning-management features, and weaker than tools that automate permanent standing private lessons. It is strongest when a teaching business wants classes, courses, appointments and rooms on one operational calendar without a per-student software fee.

How Junocal delivers each criterion

Junocal was designed around class-based and lesson-based businesses, so the music-studio shape is native, not bolted on.

Private lessons and fixed weekly blocks. Junocal books a one-to-one lesson as an individual appointment. A fixed run of weekly lessons can be published as a capacity-one term-based course, with dated sessions and one enrolment. It does not currently generate an open-ended repeating appointment or support duet capacity inside an appointment.

Termly enrolment. Term-based courses let you publish a fixed run of weekly lessons for a term and enrol students into the whole block with a single payment. This matches how music schools actually bill, and parents see a clear start and end rather than an open-ended subscription. When the next term opens, you publish the new course and re-enrol.

Class packs and memberships. Junocal sells packs and memberships for eligible group classes and workshops, and tracks credits as clients book those classes. These products do not currently redeem against private appointment services, so do not treat them as private-lesson packs.

Client records and intake. Junocal supports configurable client intake workflows that can collect instrument, grade or level and contact details. The private-appointment checkout itself captures contact details and notes; it does not currently place a conditional intake form inside the appointment payment flow.

Automated emails. Booking confirmations, automated class reminders, welcome emails and win-back nudges reduce routine follow-up. Failed-payment recovery supports recurring memberships when a renewal charge fails.

How parent payments work on your own Stripe

Junocal connects to your own Stripe account through Stripe Connect Standard. Payment and payout records for term courses, appointments, class packs and memberships live in your Stripe dashboard rather than a Junocal marketplace balance.

The registration contact can pay for a named student's course, but Junocal does not currently provide a household billing portal with separate parent and child logins. Junocal adds no processing markup or booking-volume fee. The methods and processing rates available are the ones Stripe supports for the connected account and transaction. The important difference is verifiable ownership: the payment dashboard, payout history and Stripe relationship belong to the teaching business.

Pricing

Junocal starts at $15 a month on the Starter plan, or $150 a year. The price is the same number in USD, GBP, and EUR, so a teacher in any of those regions pays 15 a month in their own currency.

Starter includes one-off one-to-one appointments, term-based courses, group classes, class packs, memberships, client records, booking confirmations, class-email automation, lead capture, reviews, check-in and coupons. Starter supports up to five instructor seats at one location. Open-ended recurring appointments, duet appointment capacity and appointment-credit redemption are not currently available.

If you outgrow Starter, Studio is $29 a month with unlimited rooms and instructor seats across up to five locations, while Growth is $69 a month and supports up to ten locations plus the QuickBooks workflow. See the full breakdown on the pricing page. Monthly plans have no annual commitment, CSV export is included, and migration help is available in your first 30 days.

Getting started

Start by connecting Stripe and publishing the services Junocal actually supports: one-off private appointment availability, a dated term course, or capacity-based group classes. Configure class packs or memberships only for eligible group-class services. Add client intake fields to the wider client workflow and review the appointment checkout so you know exactly which details a private-lesson customer supplies.

From there, customers book and pay through your branded storefront, and the resulting appointments, courses and classes appear on the operator schedule. Start with the music studio software pillar, see the narrower music lesson booking workflow, or compare the affordable music teacher software route. If you are moving from another tool, migration help is included in your first 30 days.

The bottom line: shortlist My Music Staff when teaching records and payroll are central, Fons when standing recurring lessons and automatic billing are central, Duet for a low-cost music-specific portal, TeacherZone for a deeper learning environment, and Junocal when fixed terms, one-off privates, group programmes and direct payment ownership need to live on one calendar at a predictable price.

a few questions

FAQ

Does music teacher software support recurring weekly lessons?
Some music-specific platforms do. Junocal currently books one-to-one appointments individually; it does not create an open-ended repeating appointment. A teacher can sell a fixed dated block as a capacity-one term course, while one-off and make-up lessons use appointment availability. If permanent standing-slot automation is essential, shortlist a tool that explicitly supports it.
Can parents pay for a whole term up front?
Yes. A registration contact can enrol a named student in a fixed dated course and pay once through the teacher's connected Stripe account. Packs and memberships can cover eligible group classes, but they do not currently redeem against private appointment services. Junocal is not a household billing portal with separate parent and child logins.
Whose payment account does the money go through?
Your own. Junocal connects to the teaching business's Stripe account through Stripe Connect Standard, so payment and payout records live in that Stripe dashboard. Junocal adds no processing markup or marketplace commission. The payment methods and Stripe rates available depend on the connected account and region.
How do reminders and intake work for a music studio?
Junocal sends booking confirmations and supports automated class reminders, welcome and win-back emails. Configurable intake forms can collect teaching information in the client workflow, but the private-appointment checkout itself captures contact details and notes rather than a conditional intake form. Failed-payment recovery applies to recurring memberships.
How much does music teacher software cost?
Current published starting prices checked on 27 August 2026 are $14 a month for Duet Basic, $14.95 for My Music Staff, $15 for Junocal, $19.95 for Fons Pro and $99 for TeacherZone Growing. Limits and variable costs differ: Duet Basic allows 20 students, My Music Staff and Fons add $4.95 per additional staff member, Fons also publishes a 0.4% subscription-volume fee, and TeacherZone Growing covers up to 100 students.
