Marketplace commission — 20%, capped at $30 per transaction
Mindbody charges 20% on bookings made through the consumer app by attributed clients, inside an attribution window. For a studio with $200K annual bookings, half attributed: ~$20,000/year.
Processing markup on bundled payments
Mindbody is the merchant of record; rates run 20-40 basis points above Stripe's published rates direct. On £150K annual card volume: £400-£900/year.
Annual contract auto-renewal increases
Standard 12-24 month contracts with auto-renewal. The auto-renewal price may differ from the initial-term price; renewal increases of 5-15% YoY are common across the category.
Complete-record data export fee at cancellation
Standard CSV export from Reports is free. A complete-record export including years of intake form versions and detailed financial transactions is reported at ~£400 / $500. Most migrations don't need this; it applies only on specific request.
Mindbody Starter is the cheapest published tier at around £105 / $129 a month (UK / US approximately). It covers class scheduling, payments, basic reporting, and the Mindbody marketplace listing. It does not include pick-a-spot — for that you need Accelerate at around £205 / $259 a month and up. Pricing varies by negotiation at signup; Mindbody doesn't publish a single sticker price as plainly as some competitors.
Pick-a-spot is gated to Accelerate and above, starting at £205 / $259 a month. The £100/month gap from Starter is primarily about pick-a-spot. For reformer studios where pick-a-spot is load-bearing, Accelerate is the practical floor. Junocal includes pick-a-spot on its £29 / $39 Starter tier — the same feature at roughly a third the entry-tier price.
Mindbody charges 20% commission on bookings from clients who discovered the studio through the Mindbody consumer app and marketplace, capped at $30 per transaction, on top of payment processing fees. The commission applies inside an attribution window — once a client is attributed via their first marketplace booking, subsequent bookings inside the window (typically 30-90 days, varies by configuration) also pay the commission, even when booked through the studio's own page. For a studio doing $200,000/year with half attributed to marketplace, the commission alone is ~$20,000/year.
Mindbody uses bundled payment processing — Mindbody is the merchant of record, the studio is a sub-account. Effective rates run a few tenths of a percent above Stripe's published rates direct. On £150,000 annual card volume, the bundled-versus-passthrough difference is £400-£900/year. When a client disputes a charge, Mindbody mediates rather than the studio dealing directly with the processor. When you leave Mindbody, the Stripe relationship belongs to Mindbody, not to you.
Yes. Standard Mindbody contracts run 12-24 months with auto-renewal. The cancellation window is typically 30-60 days before term-end; miss it and you're committed for another year. The auto-renewal price may differ from the initial-term price, and the renewal letter is usually the moment studios first see the new rate. Junocal, OfferingTree, and Arketa offer month-to-month with one-click cancel as the default.
The standard CSV export from Mindbody Reports is free and covers most fields needed for migration. A separate complete-record export (reported at ~£400 / $500) applies when requesting a full historical archive including year-over-year intake form versions and detailed financial transactions at cancellation. The standard export is sufficient for most migrations — the fee scenario is real but avoidable.
For a UK pilates studio doing £150,000/year with 20% attributed to marketplace, on Mindbody Accelerate: £2,460 subscription (£205 × 12) + £6,000 marketplace commission + £500-£900 processing markup = £9,000-£9,400/year all-in. Comparable studio on Junocal Studio at £79/month: ~£1,430/year. Annual difference: ~£7,600 for the same operational shape.
